XAT 2017 : Changes in question paper

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is conducted every year by XLRI to derive the merit of aspirants for admissions in XLRI and other XAMI institutes for post graduate management courses. XAT 2017 is under process and applications were accepted till 30th November 2016. XAT 2017 is scheduled to be conducted on 8th January 2016 and applicants are already downloading admit cards from 20th December.

XLRI has announced modality of the exam and released the expected XAT 2017 question paper pattern and scoring.  XAT 2017 is paper based and here is the snapshot of the test pattern and section wise question distribution.

  • XAT 2017 will have 2 parts i.e., Part 1 and Part 2
  • Part 1 will have 3 sections A, B and C having 24, 21 and 27 questions respectively with a total of 72 questions.
  • Par t1 is recommended to be finished in 170 minutes. (actually no restriction only advise for optimum performance)
  • Part 2 will have 25 General knowledge questions and an essay.
  • Total time for completing Part 1 and part 2 is 210 minutes.
  • All questions will have equal marks and one fourth a mark shall be deducted for wrong choice.
  • GK score will not be used for short listing and only used for final merit list.
  • Unanswered question will also cost 0.05 mark deduction and up to 12 unanswered questions deduction will not apply.
  • Each question will have 5 options with single correct answer.
  • Candidates shall bubble the OMR with Blue/Black ball point pen only.

XAT 2016 V/S XAT 2017

  • The total number of questions in part 1 reduced from 78 to 72.
  • Reductions in number of questions may lead to higher difficulty level of exam.
  • Cut off marks may be reduced.
  • Number of unanswered questions that will not attract negative marking is reduced from 13 to 12 questions.
