Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (Karnataka PGCET 2016)

Karnataka Examination Authority initiated admission process to fill the full time and par time post graduate programs offered in universities / government colleges and self financed private colleges in the state of Karnataka. Admissions for the academic year 2016-17 in to the courses M.E. /M.Tech. /M.arch/ M.B.A. and M.C.A. are done through Karnataka PGCET 2016 conducted by KEA. Aspiring candidates have to apply through online from KEA website and all the admissions are done by the merit obtained in the entrance exam only. For M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Arch. Programs Candidates who have valid GATE score are exempted from PGCET but for the admission process they have to register online. Candidates having GATE scores will get first preference in the admission process. Online application will be available from 24th of May 2016 and last date for online application is 8th June 2016 (till 5.30PM).

Online application process

Candidates have to register online on official website furnishing information such as Name, Father Name, email id and contact number. Candidates are advised to produce proper contact details for further communication by KEA. Upon success full registration candidates can login and fill the application. A sample application is available on website, candidates are advised to download and to go through information bulletin thoroughly before filling the application form. Candidates have to upload his/her photograph, signature, left thumb impression and parent’s signature. After completion of online application take print out of bank challan for fee payment and remit the same at respective bank before the last date which is 10th June 2016. Candidates have to maintain 2 or 3 copies of final printout of application and copies of uploaded photograph for further needs.

Fee for general category is Rs.650/- and Rs.500 for SC/ST.

Academic Eligibility for M.B.A.

  • Candidates shall pass a minimum 3 year graduation from any recognized university with an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC/ST) from all the years.
  • Candidates appearing /appeared the qualifying exam in 2016 and whose results are awaited can also apply.
  • For part time M.B.A. Candidates shall pass a minimum 3 year graduation from any recognized university with an aggregate of 50% (40% for SC/ST) from all the years and require 3years of working experience.

Academic Eligibility for M.C.A.

  • Candidates shall pass graduation from any recognized university with an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC/ST) from all the years and study Mathematics /Statistics/ Computer science/Computer applications/Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as optional subject .
  • Candidates appearing /appeared the qualifying exam in 2016 and whose results are awaited can also apply.
  • For lateral entry Candidates shall pass a minimum 3 year graduation in B.C.A. / B.Sc. (computer science / IT) from any recognized university with an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC/ST) from all the years and study Mathematics in 10+2.

Academic Eligibility for M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch.

  • Candidates shall pass a relevant undergraduate engineering program with an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC/ST) from all the semesters.
  • Candidates appearing /appeared the qualifying exam in 2016 and whose results are awaited can also apply.
  • Candidates who posses B.Sc. degree with Mathematics as one of the subject or B.E./B.Tech. /B.Sc. engineering are eligible for postgraduate programs offered by Kuvempu University.
  • For Part time programs Candidates shall pass a relevant undergraduate engineering program with an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC/ST) from all the semesters and require minimum 3 years of work experience.

Exam pattern and syllabus

  • PGCET 2016 for MBA contains MCQ type questions, exam is held in one session and duration of exam is 150 minutes. Exam is conducted for 100 marks where each question carries 1 mark. All the questions have 4 options with single correct answer and no negative marking for wrong choice. Candidates have to bubble the OMR sheet with ballpoint pen only.
  • PGCET 2016 for MCA is MCQ type and held in one session for duration of 150 minutes. Exam is conducted for 100 marks. Question paper consists of 2 parts and part A having 60 questions will carry 1 mark for each question and part B having 20 questions will carry 2marks for each question. Candidates have to bubble the OMR sheet, all the questions have 4 options with single correct answer and no negative marking for the wrong choice.
  • PGCET 2016 for ME/MTech/MArch is MCQ type and held in two different sessions (Type A and Type B) for duration of 150 minutes for each session. Exam is conducted for 100 marks where each type has 75 questions from which 50 questions carries 1 mark and 25 questions carry 2 marks. Candidates have to bubble the OMR sheet, all the questions have 4 options with single correct answer and no negative marking for wrong choice.
  • Type A session is for Postgraduate programs in Kuvempu University and Type B session is for VTU / UBDTCE and UVCE.
  • For some engineering branches questions are divided into Part A and part B. Part A is common for all the branches and Part B contains questions related to respective branch.

PGCET 2016 for MBA tests the candidate’s ability in English proficiency, General knowledge, Quantitative Analysis & Reasoning and General Intelligence.

Syllabus for MCA consists of topics related to Mathematics, Computer awareness, Analytical ability, Logical reasoning, General awareness and General English.
